The most powerful relationship you will ever have is the relationship with yourself. – Steve Maraboli

Self-care is literally caring for self.  And that can look any bazillion number of ways.

At the core of self-care, I’ve noticed 3 essentials:

  • Mindfulness and awareness
  • Nervous system regulation
  • Meeting (emotional/physical) pain

What’s that really mean?  What does that look like?

Mindfulness and awareness looks like paying attention to your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors with curiosity.

Nervous system regulation looks like knowing how to safely connect with and be in your body.

Meeting pain looks like letting discomfort be there, without having to change it, run away from it, numb out from it, or get overwhelmed by it.

These are also the same skills I’m actively using while losing weight.

I can’t successfully diet without deep listening to my body, intuition, and Spirit.

Nor can I stay grounded in my body without feeling safe and secure in my body.

And hunger?  You bet that it’s its own kind of pain.

Awareness, system regulation, and allowing pain aren’t the tools.  They’re the toolbox.

What’s your toolbox made of?

Light to you,
Z.
